Exam Procedures - Rule & Regulations
Deferrals & Changes before normal closing date If a student is deferring an exam please note the exam will be deferred into the next exam sitting. A student can defer an exam on 2 occasions.  If a student wishes to defer their exam sitting, or change exam centres or subject, the request must be received in writing before the normal closing date for the exam for which they were originally entered. No fee will apply. Deferrals & Changes after normal closing date & before the late entry date Up until the late entry closing date deferrals and changes will be made on receipt of written request and payment of €55. Confirmation of deferrals and or changes will be made in writing. Only on receipt of the written confirmation of the requested amendment can a student assume their request has been agreed.  After the Late Entry Date After the late entry date no changes can be made under any circumstances. Student’s wishing to withdraw at this stage will not receive a refund unless in the case of illness. Medical evidence must be supplied.  Absence If a student supplies medical evidence to verify their absence from an exam (supplied within 2 months of the date of the exam) their entry will be transferred into the next exam sitting or they will receive a refund of 50% of the exam entry fee. Cancellations Fees Cancellation of an exam entry before the normal closing date will entitle a student to a 50% refund of the exam entry fee.  Tuition Tuition will be held in Dublin , Cork , Galway , Limerick and Sligo approximately 1 month before each exam session. Tuition will be provided in these centres based on sufficient numbers enrolled. Students will be advised in advance of the sessions dates and confirmation of attendance will be required to ensure the appropriate sessions and arrangements are put in place.  Day of the Exams  Admission Permit and Instructions You will be sent an admission permit and instructions about 14 days before the exams begin. .  Proof of Identity You must be prepared to show proof of your identity to any examination official who requests it. This photographic proof is in addition to your admission permit. The following documents are acceptable as identification; - A current passport
- Company identification card containing your photograph and signature
- Full driving licence containing your photograph and signature

Mobile Telephones You may only take a mobile telephone into the exam room if it has first been switched off. Mobile phones must remain switched off for the duration of the exam.  Exam Papers Before leaving the exam room, you must hand to the invigilator your exam paper and answer sheet/book.  Disciplinary Action The Insurance Institute of Ireland may take disciplinary action against any candidate found guilty of dishonourable or unprofessional conduct or of committing a breach of the exam regulations. Penalties may be imposed for falsification of documents or cheating during the exams.  After the Exams  Results Exam results are issued by post only. Results will not be given over the telephone, fax or email under any circumstances. The pass mark for the CIP examinations is 55%. The decision of the Examiners’ Committee is in every case final. In no circumstances will any of a students answer books be returned. Mark Disclosure The actual mark attained in the exam will be disclosed to a student on receipt of a written request and a fee of €15 within six weeks of the results being issued.  Recheck (Applies to GEN 3B only) On receipt of an X grade, a student may apply for a remark on; payment of a €104 fee, which will be refunded if the original grade is amended to a pass. the application is made in writing for a re-mark within six weeks of the results being issued.  Feedback Reports When a student achieves a Y or Z grade and so is not entitled to a recheck, a feedback report can be prepared on receipt of a written request within six weeks of the results being issued and a payment of €50. This is available for GEN 3B only. Graduation The Annual Industry Graduation is held in November and invitations to the graduates are issued in October for this event. All graduates from the April and preceding October examination sitting will be entitled to attend. That is, the November 2008 Graduation Ceremony will relate to students who qualified in the October 2007 and April 2008 exam sittings. Students unable to attend will be issued their parchment shortly after the ceremony takes place.  CPD The CIP has become the minimum educational standard for those engaged in delivering advice on General Insurance Policies under Minimum Competency Requirements as set down by the Financial Regulator in July 2006.  Once you have completed the CIP by examination you are required to do the following in order to use the CIP designation:  fully participate in the Institute’s CPD programme and comply with all of it’s requirements and maintain membership of The Insurance Institute of Ireland
